Flash Requirements

  • We do accept Flash ads, but it is not a preferred format due to Chrome and Firefox no longer fully supporting the flash plugin.
  • The Clickthrough URL should not be hard coded in the Flash file, an active Clickthrough URL should be provided in a .txt/.xls file when the Flash file is submitted.
  • A back-up GIF or JPG must be submitted with the SWF.
  • All Flash files must have the following clickTag variable embedded in order to properly track and report clicks with site served Flash ads. NOTE:clickTag is case sensitive.

clickTag (ActionScript 2)

  1. Transparent Button object layered on top of clickable area
  2. Button clickthrough URL: _level0.clickTag (underscore level ZERO period clickTag)
  3. Target window is set to "_blank"

Here's what the code will then look like in the FLA file:

on (release) { getURL (_level0.clickTag, "_blank"); }

clickTag (ActionScript 3)

  1. In your Flash document create two new layers at the very top. Call the top one “Action Script” and the bottom one “Button”.
  2. With the Button-layer selected, draw a rectangle which covers the area you want to respond to the mouse click
  3. Highlight the rectangle and convert it to a Button symbol
  4. Make the button transparent
  5. Now return to the scene and name the button instance on stage “myButton”
  6. Select frame 1 in the ActionScript layer and open the ActionScript Editor
  7. In the ActionScript Editor paste the following code to create your clickTag:
myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onButtonClick); function onButtonClick(evt:MouseEvent):void{ if (root.loaderInfo.parameters.clickTag.substr(0,5)=="http:" || root.loaderInfo.parameters.clickTag.substr(0,6)=="https:" ){ navigateToURL(new URLRequest(root.loaderInfo.parameters.clickTag),"_blank"); } }
