Type-2 diabetes: related conditions and treatments
Among the 26 million U.S. adults who have type 2 diabetes, more than 8 in 10 report that they have also experienced some type of diabetes-related complication or condition, according to the 2015 MARS Consumer Health study.
The top 3 diabetes-related conditions are:
- 64% Hypertension/High blood pressure
- 42% Diabetic nerve pain
- 37% Eye conditions (e.g., glaucoma, cataracts)
Close to 1 in 5 of these adults also suffers from diabetes-related foot or skin conditions/complications, such as ulcers, poor circulation, amputation, infections, or itching.
83% of adults with type 2 diabetes claim that they use prescription medication and nearly half use a branded Rx (vs. generic). 52% say that diet or exercise is part of their treatment plan, and about 1 in 3 indicate that they use insulin.
