Advertising spend for new ads on national TV grew during the week of August 21st for the second week in a row, reaching $82 million – up $2 million from the previous week. Spend benefited from NFL preseason games, which accounted for 12 percent of new creative expenditures, or $9.5 million. Indeed, even though there was an increase in spend, the number of advertisers contributing to the total was down from 580 to 535, and the large chunk of spending during NFL preseason games only came from 39 advertisers.
Creative Spotlight
Travel site Hotwire.com spent 100% of its national TV budget for the week on new creative. In a new campaign which debuted on August 21st, Hotwire takes the pressure off of booking travel. In the spot, actor Martin Starr is shown lounging with a sitar-playing goat. With his calming voice and peaceful surroundings, Starr welcomes us to the “No Pressure Zone” where there’s no pressure to get a great rate on a hotel, because they’re available for an unlimited time on Hotwire which means you can book now – or don’t.
Hotwire has released two versions of the ad so far. To date, they have aired 1,291 times nationally and 1,029 locally.
